Late 80s nostalgia, brown power suits, smoke-filled offices, and 3-D sunglasses. In 2025, there was a nail-painting trend where folks would paint a black and white checkerboard pattern, followed by thin red and blue lines alternating along the sides of the squares. It gave the nails this very cool, retro, 3-D effect. I wanted to try using that same red and blue highlight in my art, which is how this piece was created. It makes me think of office workers in Hollywood movies like “Die Hard,” Elaine from “Seinfeld,” Laura Dern in general, and getting food at Pizza Hut with the iconic red-pebble cups.
