I feel so much hope, joy, and a sense of victory when I look at this piece. Like many of my pieces, she was made rather quickly and without an end goal in mind. I started with the orange first, just freely drawing shapes that I liked. With that shape finished, I went back in with pen and added the body of woman holding her hand up to the sky. Is she reaching out and up, or lifting her arm as a perch on which a bird could alight? Either way, she exudes a confidence in her naked form, a trust in the body she inhabits, and she makes me believe in a more hopeful tomorrow.
Companion piece to “Hair 2.”
8 x 10 in, cold press paper. Each print is signed and dated before being individually wrapped in a protective plastic sleeve with a foam board backing.
