With this piece, I wanted to use a style reminiscent of simple, ancient drawings. Hieroglyphs, cave paintings, and tapestries that tell their stories less through deeply defined artistry and more through prominent symbols. The “Lady of the Lake” hearkens back to The Knights of the Round Table and King Arthur. In those stories, she is a guide, a guardian, and a gift-bearer. But to think of her as a small side character is to misunderstand what she represents. She is truly instrumental to the success of the men around her and has captured the imagination of many for centuries. I won’t tell you what symbols I’ve put here and why. That is for you to decide, and for you to discover your own story for the “Lady of the Lake.”
